Late nights

I went ahead and pulled my webcam in from the living room finally, so I have the classic desk-photo ability again. But this means I have a microphone for which I will talk to Seiko-chan and others~

I realized that the Meikai students being here and leaving had openned up some kind of floodgates, which, now that the waters have evened out, can be eased shut once again. A moment ago I had a strange kind of dream, though, and now I’ve got a new perspective on my kind of loneliness. Of course, I’m not happy with it, but… whatever, I guess.

0403080002.jpg0404080001sm.jpgIn other news, I started working on my last 3d project. The Munny I bought from Alfred was a Christmas version, white, with a set of sweet Christmas Accessories. I’ll keep those accessories for another time – I’m sure they’ll add a bonus to some stat or another.

The design on the munny is mostly going to be based on the robot-Bjork from the music video All Is Full Of Love, but I want to put a red light inside my munny so that that plus sign lights up red. Hoping this project turns out alright.

I’m seeking second employment presently. With any luck I’ll be a server or something. But my second choices are to work with desserts lol. All I can think about these days is my trip to Japan. That and being single. But at least the second concern isn’t as heavy in my mind as it used to be.

Non-gushoubijutsu.

So, after a lot of craziness last night (which I’ll get into later), I finally got to work on my Non-representational artwork.

I mentioned earlier that I went to a great store called Skycraft to pick up materials, and this is the outcome. (I sincerely need a real digital camera)

My focus was largely on color and form. Red was decidedly the prominent, and its complementary green was the only other color to permeate the piece. I tried to direct the viewers eye toward the point at the base using the wires as converging lines, and turning them in such a way as to lead your eye back around. The golden mean was used to calculate the varying lengths of red wire, as well as the ratio of black wrapping to silver antenna.

Originally the antenna was extended much higher, but for balance of the piece as a whole, I shortened it. On top of that, I believe that because of proportion, shrinking the size of that vertical increased the sense of overall mass when you look at the red wires. Since its non-representational, I think proportion has different effects on the mind. The eye takes in an object as a whole, so since this is a stand alone project (it is insular), it will compare objects within itself. If the antenna was extended, the loop of wire would seem ‘small’ in comparison. Since it was shortened, the mind decides that the wires are relatively larger than they were before. I think the mind will scale what it sees to the same size, only with a varying aspect ratio.

By comparison – for those interested, if hypothetically there was a person standing next to the antenna (rather than red wire, thus making the piece semi-representational), the mind would give that tiny person a set mass, and the antenna would then be decidedly large by comparison, rather than the other way around. So by turning the artwork non-representational, we hope to neutralize all former perceptions of the objects at hand.

At least, that’s how I see it. I’m glad the project is done – I’m actually really looking forward to my next piece. I am going to be customizing one of those pop-surrealist munnys. It should be fun.
